Day 5: June 9, 2017

Today was filled with unexpected surprises. We visited the Du Jiang Yan irrigation system, which has been going on for about 2000-3000 years. The view was absolutely amazing. Emily, our guide, explained the whole irrigation system really thoroughly, which actually made me appreciate the irrigation itself a lot better. In the middle, we stopped for coconut milk and fresh cucumbers, and continued our way back to the bus, riding the golf carts. Right after, we went to Mt. Qing Chang. We hiked up the mountain a good twenty minutes, took a short ferry, had lunch, and hiked for thirty minutes more to get to the very top. It was beautiful once we got up there. DAOISM. The hike down was actually really fun. There were some parts that were very steep, but for the most part I had an interesting time. One out of two of my favorite parts of the hike down was when we stopped and Cai Lao Shi stopped the group and took time to meditate. She told us to close our eyes, breathe, and listen to our surroundings, and it felt so good to take in everything and nature. I'm such a huge fan of nature, and back home near my house, there is a botanical gardens that I love to walk through. The sanctuary in PA is probably one of my favorite sites on campus. I love going for a twenty to thirty minute walk or run just unplugged and taking nature in.

Another memorable part of the hike down the mountain was my conversation with Jungwoo and Ryan. We talked about our futures and what we've realized about our time at PA, and I think it's interesting how much more aware we are now than we were before. Coming to PA has actually been one of my best decisions that I've made on my own, has made me realized so many things about myself, and changed me. I have definitely become a lot more introverted, appreciate my surroundings, understand my situations in the past, especially as a small kid, and reflect on how I am now. PA has definitely opened me up to a lot more possibilities and made me become more passionate in fields that I'm genuinely interested like community engagement, especially engaging with children in the area. During our conversation, we talked about what kind of person we wanted to grow up to be and where we saw ourselves in twenty years, and it was nice to be able to talk just more than the surface with people that I don't interact with often at school.

High: when we took a short break and did a little bit of meditationLow: my tummy was aching throughout the dayShoutout: jungwoo & ryan for a nice talk
