Very broadly and in three words or less, what is your topic?
  • Chinese traditional values

Give three different questions about your topic, each of which could be the guiding question for your project. These should be open-ended, but not too broad
  • How has the teachings of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism create a basis for Chinese culture (socially) and how has it evolved today?
  • How are Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism played in everyday life in China socially?
  • How has some values been challenged over the past few years?

What do you think you know already about your topic?
  • Philosophy- confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism
  • Confucianism- most chinese values are based on
    • Affects not only china but other parts of asia
    • Play hand in hand
    • Basis of chinese culture
  • Chengdu, hongkong, shanghai

What questions do you have about your topic?  These can be specific, factual questions, or broader questions. 
  • How does Confucianism and Buddhism influence Chinese business?
  • Are there social etiquettes one must follow?
  • How different is it compared to doing business in the US?
  • In what places in China is it most prevalent?
  • Is there a difference between doing business in rural and urban places in China?

At this point how do you imagine exploring your topic while we are in China? What might you look for while we are in China?  Who could you imagine speaking to about your topic?  What places or pieces of our itinerary might be of particular interest to you?
  • Speak to different businesses (hotels, cruise, local companies), visiting different parts of China and looking at the history of Confucianism and Buddhism and how it plays in their everyday lives, speak to people of all age groups

Find an article, book, and/or film that seems interesting and relevant to your topic, and begin exploring it.   (Start with an article, for this evening!)
